The little lock in your browser only works because certificate authorities keep their secret keys secret, and huge.
In April 2025, the certificate authority eMudhra (emSign) created eight intermediate keys whose secret numbers were all below 256. One of them was simply 4.
Anyone could work them out in under a second and stamp a "valid" certificate for any website.
